Felt Gift Card Holder

Sew two small pieces of felt sheets into a DIY gift card holder with basic decorative stitching, and use it as tree ornaments or gift-giving ideas.

Easy Gift Card Sleeve From Felt

This felt gift card holder resembles a tiny tote bag. Add it to the wrapped gift box as a gift tag, or hang it on the tree as a surprise DIY tree ornament.

The felt sleeve pouch fits for a card and has enough space to use it as a treat bag.

Best Stitch For Felt

Some basic and decorative stitches for sewing felt are blanket stitch, whip stitch, running stitch, or ladder stitch.

Embroidery floss is the most common thread for hand-stitching felt sheets together. However, I used a regular sewing machine thread and a blanket stitch for this project.

You can use a regular thread or embroidery floss as you prefer, and use any basic or decorative stitch that is easier to use.

Felt Gift Card Holder Tree Ornament Tutorial

If you use 6″ square felt, divide it into two pieces with 3″ x 6″ each.

Mark a line 1.5″ down from the top left and right corners. Fold the 3″ x 6″ felt in half and lengthwise.

Mark 0.25″ on the marked line from the edge, draw a curve line from the top to the 0.25″ marked spot, and use a protractor or any curve object.

Mark another 0.25″ from the first one, and draw another curve line next to the other.

Cut the felt along the straight line from the folded edge and both curve lines so that the felt resembles a panel of mini tote bags.

Repeat drawing lines and cutting for the other piece of felt.

Align the shape of two felt pieces, and start stitching the two pieces together from the top right side of the pocket all the way to the bottom edge and the top left side of the pocket.

Use the blanket stitch or any other decorative stitch.

The felt gift card sleeve is ready to use now. The size of the pocket is 3″ x 4.25″.

Insert the gift card or some treats into the pocket.

Use an ornament hook to hang the felt gift card sleeve on the tree, add it to the wrapped gift box or add it to the stocking stuffer items.

These little felt pouches can also be used as an Advent calendar.
