Easy To Make Butterfly Craft

From summer camp, travelling, gardening, picnics at the park, beach time, and other fun things, summer can be busy with many fun activities.

But how about on a rainy day? Have a crafting day by making this adorable butterfly as one of the nature crafts and easy animal craft projects.

Supply To Make Felt Butterfly

Use two different felt colors. The butterfly antenna is a simple knotted beading cord.
You will get two felt butterflies from two different circle felts.

  • 2 of 6″ x 6″ felt, use two different colors, any color you like
  • Paper template 4″ diameter circle and 5″ diameter circle
  • 12″ decorative rope, beading cord, jewelry cord, or thin ribbon
  • Disappeared ink fabric marker
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle
  • Thread

Step By Step To Make Felt Butterfly

Make both paper templates using a pen compass or two small plate sizes.

Trace the paper template to the felt or trace each small plate directly on the felt.

Cut each felt sheet along the traced circle line.

Divide each felt circle into two pieces.

Put the curved edge of the bigger half-circle against the curved edge of the smaller one.
Start threading the center of each half-circle felt, then pull the thread.

Loop the thread around the center of the ruffled felt, then make a knot.

Loop the beading cord a few times around the center, then make the knot.

Leave both ends of the beading cord enough length to make the butterfly antenna. Make a knot on both ends of the beading cord.
At this point, the felt butterfly is ready to use.

Various Ways To Use Felt Butterflies

Make as many felt butterflies as you like for your craft supplies. Mix and match the felt color for both wings.

Butterfly Hair Accessories
You can hot glue the hair clip or sew on the hair tie on one side of the felt butterfly. Another way is to hot glue the felt butterfly to the headband for a DIY hair accessory.

Butterfly Brooch
Hot glue or sew on the pin brooch clasp on one side of the butterfly, then use it as a pin for clothing or tote bag accessories.

Decorative Summer Hat
